Ashtanga Yoga Workshop: Foundation First.
The workshop will run Saturday 25 October-Sunday 26 October.
Saturday, 10/25/08: 1-5 pm
Sunday, 10/26/08: 12-4 pm
Cost is $90 if registered before OCTOBER 15, 2008.
After OCT.15, cost is $108.
The goal of the workshop is to provide students with a clear understanding and awareness of the Ashtanga methodology as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. By calling upon the guidance of her teacher, David Keil, and her experiences during her two pilgrimages to Mysore, Jill will lay a proper and strong foundation on which the students can confidently build self-practices and continue their studies. Over the course of the weekend, the class will explore the foundations of Ashtanga practice by studying the external postures and working to develop awareness of the more subtle aspects such as the prana (breath), bandha (energy) and dristi (focus). Throughout the class Jill will cover the opening and closing mantras, some history on the origin of Ashtanga, debunk some widespread myths, share some personal tips and tricks as well her own stock of stories and experiences. The weekend will culminate with led (traditionally counted) practice of the asanas (postures) covered during instruction.
The workshop is open to practitioners of all levels; whether just beginning to explore the system or looking to clear up any confusion, hopefully all attendees will fall in love with the divine details and keep these lessons close for a long time. If there is enough interest and enthusiasm, Jill will offer a second installment with the option of an additional Mysore morning week.
Sign up early as space is limited and demand for this transformative experience is high!
Jill Manning has been teaching since earning her certification in an intensive 200-hour teacher-training program at Integral Yoga Institute in New York City in June of 2000. During the past seven years, she has advanced her studies in this ancient practice under the mentorship of some of the great teachers of our time, most recently dedicating herself as a student of the Miami-based authorized Ashtanga yoga teacher David Keil. In the fall of 2006, Jill made her first pilgrimage to India to study, spending a month with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Jill received her B.A. from New York University in 2000 from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she focused on Eastern philosophy. Working hard to lead classes that emphasize the mind-body connection, her Vinyasa classes are constructed with a careful eye to ensure the series of poses fit together as a beneficial whole. Jill has a deep appreciation of the Iyengar yoga system, and from her time spent studying with certified teachers precise alignment has become hallmark of JillÄôs teaching style. For the past three years, Jill has been honored to partner with Corina Brenner in assisting Wake Up YogaÄôs highly esteemed teacher training program. She has recently returned from Mysore, India (2007) continuing her studies with Guruji, Sharat, and Saraswati. When not in the studio, she practices the yoga of life and family in the East Falls section of Philadelphia with her husband, Mike, and their dog Angie.
